Dear All

11th April was a special day. It was one of the first round qualifying for Brtain Got Talent ( UK version of American Idol ) . I was watching one of its video clip on youtube and chanced upon Susan Boyle. Susan is a 49 year old unemployed lady who loves to sing. When she came up to stage , all 3 of the judges were skeptical of her, thinking that she will be another flop who can’t sing well. The Joke was made worst when she told the crowed that she is going to sing  ” I dreamed a Dream ” from the famous musical Les Miserables.

Before she sung , you could notice from the video that the whole crowd looked down on her and even the judges had a good laugh over her physical appearances… However , once she performed the song , which was a perfect rendition of the actual song. You could see that the whole crowd went wild and gave her a standing ovation. Everyone in the studio was caught off guard……

If you google about it , you will find that this particular video had about 20 millions hits since 11 April , which is like hell a lot of ppl viewing it …. So , the question is why are people around the world so thrilled by this lady called Susan Boyle

I personally believed that the reason why people can cry over watching her sing is that they recognise that there was a part of themselves within Susan Boyle . To the public , Susan represents an individual who is not physically appealing at all but had a great talent at singing and once she performed to the whole audience. Everyone then realised how talented she is instead of judging her by her looks .

Deep inside all of us , we have a desire that we can be more , we can contribute more , finding the dream gal/girl of our lives . But over the years , we are conditioned to have a belief that lliving an extraordinary life is not possible due to certain constraints . To All of us , Susan Boyle broke our limiting beliefs and reminded us that we are all made for greatness . the Seeds of Greatness is within us !!!

For now , I WANT SUSAN BOYLE to win Britain Got Talent

Thank You AIG and Citi Group for the Big Ang Bao

March 20, 2009 by huangjunxiong

Dear All

The past 5 days was a mad short rally in the US stock market. what was even more stunnning was that 2 fundamentally very weak stock , AIG and Citi Group more than 4 times increase in its value over a period of 5 days. Below are the charts of the stock price during this “mad ” period

AIG , the bigger insurer and my ex parent company ( AIA is indepedant already ) , stock price went up from abt 40 cents to a peak of $1.97 in 6 days…  i took a sizable position on wednesday at 1.35 and sold the next day when market opens at 1.97 !!!!  : D

Citi Group is another example . The stock went up from $1 to a record of $3.7 in 5 days . I took positions at 3.15 and let go at 3.60 in 2 days times.

So why am i writing this post? In todays economic and financial uncertainty conditions , everyday the newspaper bombard us with news of stock market dropping and ppl losing jobs and etc etc . It is so negative that i seldom heard someone who is upbeat and positive about working or earning $$$ today .

My point here is that , if we remain focused and absolutely clear about our outcome ( what we want to achieve ) , we will be able to break through limitations . This could be in terms of trading , working  in your job or simply being a better friend/bf gf/ and etc. And also , todays financial crisis in my personal opinion is the BEST time to get rich in a short period of time by finding undervalued stocks which have a potential to rebound 10 times in value when the market turn around ( earliest end of this year ) . This means that WE still have 8 more months to accumulate and earn as much $$ as we can so that when the market eventually turn around, we have the capital to take advantage of this market upswing !

Last point to note , the next time this kind of financial crisis happens will be another 100 years plus . Do not miss this golden opportunity to invest and grow your wealth !

Chinese New Year 2009

January 25, 2009 by huangjunxiong

Dear All

had been hectic the past 2 weeks closing on my work side . was so busy that i didnt even had time to go buy chinese new year clothes. 2009 will be remembered as a recession year , inevitably when i meet up with friends , the talk will be on job cuts , no bonus and etc etc. yes indeed 2009 will be a tough year for all of us . it is important during this “crisis year ” to be strong , live strong i mean . in tough times like this , only the emotionally fit and psychologically strong individuals will be able to emerge stronger from this crisis.

Chinese New year is coming soon , and as usual i am preparing the standard answers to a lot of commonly asked question during CNY …. and i also anticipate a few  more new questions , haha

Question 1 ) Hey  Xiao Xiong , so when are you getting married or got gf liao or not ?  ( this is a common question my aunties will ask me EVERY YEAR ) ..

Answer )  Hi auntie , i had not met someone suitable yet , i am currently knowing a lot of new friends and etc . i had also been very busy with my work ever since i graduated in 2007 .

Question 2 )  Hey Junxiong , how is your insurance sales going along ? doing quite well huh?

Answer ) Hi XXX , still ok lah . i am earning enough to retire my mum and provide for my family . I had also manage to bring my family on a yearly vacation for the past 4 years. I am just doing normal and i am working very hard .

Question 3 ) Hey Junxiong , 2008 must a rough year for you huh.. your parent company AIG nearly went bankrupt hor.. so how ? got think of changing jobs or not ?

Answer ) Hi XXX , thankfully i survived the roughest patch of my career in the last quarter of 2008. AIG is under-going a change of focus and restructuring of the company. However ,my practice is not affected. AIA had taken very good care of me for the past 6 years and the thought of leaving the company had never crossed my mind before . All the old timers in AIA are working hard to ensure that AIA/AIG will pull through this crisis and emerge out stronger. Thanks for your concern , i am still around in AIA dun worry.

Here are my standard answers , so if you happen to meet up with me during the next 2 weeks and want to ask me the few question . here are my standard answers : P

Goal Setting for 2009

January 2, 2009 by huangjunxiong

Dear All

It might seemed a bit old fashion that i am still setting goals at my current age. But however being an extremely target driven person ( perhaps due to my sales nature career ) , i must say that setting goals is very important as it keeps you focused ! A good analogy for setting goals is imagine you are a taxi driver and you happen to pick up this tourist from Changi Airport … when you ask him where does he wants to go .. he simply says ” i dunno.. just drive me around singapore.”  Without a yearly goal , we would not have clarity of what we want to do and another year would be wasted again…

Setting Goals keeps one accoutable for his/ her life . It is a way of telling the whole world that , ” hey this is what i want to do for 2009 , if i dun do it , laugh at me ok ” …

Below are my goals for 2009

1 ) Qualify for Million Dollar Round Table by November 1st 2009 , ( first year commission S$100,000 , excluding bonus )

2 ) Own 50000 AIG shares by June 2009 (  i currently have 3000 only, i will explain why 50,000 shares in a later post )

3 ) Achieve my secondary 4 weight again , 78kg  by May 2009

4 ) Bring my parents for 2 holidays in 2009 ( 1 in march , 1 in sept ) Taiwan and Japan

5 ) Read 30 self help , finance , investment, management  books

6 ) Obtain my Certified Financial Planner  ( CFP )

7 ) Buy BMW 320i second hand on my birthday ( 2nd august )

So here are the 7 goals i had set and declared on my blog. We shall see what happens at the end of 2009 .

Why I love my work?

December 11, 2008 by huangjunxiong

Why I love my job

I love my work because I remind people of the fact that they are going to die one day and they should make some financial preparations for their loved ones.

I love my work because of the high human touch it requires.

I love my work because every policy written puts the client in a better position should he had done nothing

I love my work because of a sms from a client when AIG almost went bust

“Hey bro, I know you must be very busy now. Dun worry about me, so long you are getting your pay, I am  happy”

I love my work because everyday is a challenge

I love my work because it is about compassion

After 5 Years and 4 months in AIA  , I am still loving it .

Do you love your work? Or is it a just a job?

Anthony Robbins

December 5, 2008 by huangjunxiong

Dear All

Amid all the negative news of a gloomy recession and pay cuts and etc , it is important to keep oneself highly motivated and emotionally strong to handle all kinds of situations that is beyond our control . It brings me to post some teachings of a great guy called , Anthony Robbins . For those who dunno who he is , here’s a short bio of him

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Robbins

On top is another video of him speaking at TED conference . fyi , ted confernce is an annual conference where the most outstanding individuals in their respectives are invited to speak for 20mins to a small audience to share their ideas. fyi , a ticket to TED cost usd5k excluding air fares . but it is brought free online thanks to BMW.

Heres a few more thought provoking thoughts by him

I’ve come to believe that all my past failure and frustration were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy.

Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.

The way we communicate with others and with ourselves ultimately determines the quality of our lives.
